April 11, 2018 Meeting Minutes

2017-2018 Officers: Janet Kuzma, President; Andrea Biondo, Vice President (Not in Attendance); Amanda Jagello, Treasurer (Not in Attendance); Meg Pinto, Secretary

In Attendance: Ed Del Signore, Annette Mauro, Amanda Coles, Jason Sagliano, Lauren Sagliano, Dawn LaFlamme, Allison McGrath, Gretchen Scully, Christy Thompson

Meeting called to order 7:01pm

Pledge of Allegiance

Minutes - The March 2018 minutes were reviewed by all present. Dawn LaFlamme motioned to accept, Gretchen Scully seconded. Minutes were accepted.

Treasurer's Report - The March 2018 Treasury Report was submitted and discussed.

Old Business

Spirit Sticks - Chairpersons: Amanda Jagello & Andrea Biondo not in attendance.

Yankee Candle - Chairperson: Amy Dorsey. Pick up is April 30th. Need volunteers.

Father Daughter Dance - Chairpersons: Janet Kuzma & Danielle Scanlon. April 6th. Was a lot of fun. Cotton candy was a big hit. Janet stated she would love to turn over the chairperson role to a volunteer. Dawn LaFlamme volunteered to take over the dance next year.

PSC -Western won the $500 grant toward assemblies from the Community Showcase. Western is hosting the Foley Award dinner at the Crystal Room on May 8th. Doug Hale is the award recipient. The PTO will receive 2 tickets. Will need 3-4 volunteers at the dinner. There is a Special Needs Parents Group. The Summer Block Party will take place on August 19th. Would like a table from each school. Possible Fall Trivia Night for teachers after school and parents in the evening. Need teams. Next PSC meeting is April 23rd.

Scholastic Book Fair - Chairpersons: Danielle Scanlon & Amy Dorsey. April 25th, 26th and 27th during school hours. A flyer asking for volunteers will be going home.

Administrative Professionals Day - April 25th. Dawn LaFlamme got a gift certificate and card for Mrs. Butkus. Thank you, Dawn!

4th Grade Yearbook - Chairperson: Gretchen Scully. Order is 50 minimum. 42 students, 8 for the school and teachers. 12 students didn't order. Mrs. Butkus contacted families and 3 are hardship. Orders due 4/16/18.

Field Trips - All grades are submitted. Amanda did not receive 1st grade information yet.

Mother Son Event - Chairpersons: Meg Pinto & Amanda Coles. May 11th. Detective theme. Budget $375. RSVP are being returned. A few dads and moms have volunteered. Mrs. Mauro will be attending!

Restaurant Night - Chairperson: Anshu Nanda. May 22nd Pepe's Waterbury. Flyers will be sent home which must be presented for Western PTO to get percentage. Speak with Lorraine Weschler to post to all schools Facebook pages.

Staff Appreciation Week - Chairperson: Janet Kuzma. Week of May 7th. "Western" Theme. Discussed having a daily events during the entire week as opposed to one luncheon.

Plant Sale - Chairperson: Amanda Jagello. May 11th.
Muffins with Moms / Donuts with Dads - Chairpersons: Gretchen Scully & Jen Hawks. Muffins May 11th same as plant sale. Donuts May 25th same as field day. Volunteers needed.

Playground Fundraiser - Chairpersons: Janet Kuzma & Meg Pinto. Slime your Teacher. 12 teachers and staff volunteered to get slimed. Students can choose in which container to put the money they raised. The top three money earners will get slimed. Date to be determined.

Car wash - Chairperson: Dawn LaFlamme. Possible in May. Mrs. Goodrich has to get approval from the Board of Education. If the car wash takes place, share with town to get more attendees.

New Business

NHS Grad Night Donation - We donated $100 in the past. Will keep it in the budget.

Field Day T-Shirts - Rosenblatt's price kids $3.79 and adults $3.99. There is a Western father that offered $3.69 each. We discussed having Rosenblatt's do the field day shirts and giving the father a custom order possibly for PTO event volunteers.

Duck Day - Discussed selling tickets as a fundraiser.

Happenings
• Grades 3 & 4 Smarter Balance Assessments (ELA & Math) ongoing
• April 12th Spirit Day and Junior Achievement Day with high school students. Thank you to PTO for providing a light morning snack for the volunteers.
• April 16th - 20th April vacation.
• April 23rd Robotics assembly.
• April 25th Secretaries Day.
• April 25th - 27th Book Fair.
• April 27th Earth Day clean up at 1:15. Dawn LaFlamme will pick up gloves and garbage bags from Public Works.
• May 4th District Art Show from 6:30pm-8:30pm. Every student in the district will have a piece of art on display.
• May 7th Spring Pictures (outdoor weather permitting) & Teacher Appreciation Week.
• May 8th Foley Dinner at the Crystal Room honoring Douglas Hale. Tickets are on sale in schools.
• May 9th Nurses Day.
• May 11th Plant Sale, Muffins with Moms & Mother Son Scavenger Hunt 6pm.
• May 14th K-2 Concert more info to come.
• May 15th Math Night.
In the Works
• Blacktop Art high school students are creating sketches.
• Slime a Teacher fundraiser.
Other Important Dates
• May 25th Field Day and Donuts with Dads
• June 4th Grade 3-4 picnic and concert in the evening. Time to be determined.
• June 11th 4th grade farewell!
• June 14th 4th grade fun day!
