March 14, 2018 Meeting Minutes

2017-2018 Officers: Janet Kuzma, President; Andrea Biondo, Vice President (Not in Attendance); Amanda Jagello, Treasurer; Meg Pinto, Secretary

Meeting called to order 7:00 pm

Pledge of Allegiance

Minutes - The February 2018 minutes were reviewed by all present. Allison McGrath motioned to accept, Lauren Sagliano seconded. Minutes were accepted.

Treasurer's Report - The February 2018 Treasury Report was submitted and discussed.

Old Business

Spirit Sticks - Chairpersons: Amanda Jagello & Andrea Biondo. Decided to do another sale. Every student will receive a free Earth Day spirit stick in April. Will order 100 mustache for Mother Son event, and 200 pastries with parents and 200 donuts with dudes.

PSC -Western is hosting the Foley Award dinner at the Crystal Room on May 8th. 3/26/18 is the deadline for recipient nomination applications. Mrs. Goodrich will need help planning and at the dinner. Last year ticket price was $35 per person. The money raised goes toward PSC scholarships. Next PSC meeting is March 26th.

Scholastic Book Fair - Chairpersons: Danielle Scanlon & Amy Dorsey. April 25th, 26th and 27th. Waiting to set up a delivery day. Possibly Monday, April 23rd.

Box Tops - Chairperson: Gretchen Scully. Mrs Godin's class won the pizza party contest.

Lyman Orchard Braided Pastry - Chairperson: Andrea Biondo. Delivery March 20th. $1420 profit.

4th Grade Yearbook - Chairperson: Gretchen Scully. Still need pictures from parents/staff of 4th graders to include in the yearbook. Orders due April 2nd. Will see who didn't order and look into hardship cases.

Cupcake Wars - Chairpersons: Janet Kuzma & Tina Miller. February 26th. Event was a great success. Thank you to Kevin Kuzma for doing a hilarious job announcing the winners! Profit $450.78.

Field Trips - 3rd and 4th grade trips have been scheduled but per Amanda Jagello they have not been paid for. All field trips should be submitted soon.

Restaurant Night - Chairperson: Anshu Nanda. Will call to schedule possible date May 22nd. Pepe's Waterbury said Tuesdays are the best night and they will send coupons that need to be redeemed in order for the PTO to receive 15%. The fundraiser will take place the entire day, take out and dine in orders will qualify with coupon.

Father Daughter Dance - Chairpersons: Janet Kuzma & Danielle Scanlon. April 6th. Need a DJ. Mrs. Goodrich's daughter could make a playlist and play the music. Possible ideas: rent a cotton candy machine, popcorn, selfie station with donation jar, sell carnation corsages and boutonnieres, balloons inflated on the floor.

Mother Son Event - Chairpersons: Meg Pinto & Amanda Coles. May 11th. Detective theme. Volunteers will be needed; hopefully the dads are available. Will be a scavenger hunt like last year. Melissa Hinds, Jason Sagliano and Rebecca Rehm volunteered to help.

Staff Appreciation Luncheon - Chairperson: Janet Kuzma. Week of May 7th. Use Mixed Bag gift cards, display items as raffle prizes.

Administrative Professionals Day - April 25th. Dawn LaFlamme.

Yankee Candle - Chairperson: Amy Dorsey. Sale started March 8th. Pick up is April 30th.

New Business

School Safety - Discussed Barracuda door safety devices for each classroom. Would need to fundraise.

Muffins with Moms / Donuts with Dads - Chairpersons: Gretchen Scully & Jen Hawks. Muffins May 11th same as plant sale. Donuts May 25th same as field day.

Plant Sale - Chairperson: Amanda Jagello. May 11th.

Field Day T-Shirts - Will order t-shirts for each student and staff member as well as some to sell to volunteers. Parent TJ Hayes makes shirts. Will price compare with Roseblatt's.

Playground Fundraisers - Mrs. Goodrich working on updating the playground area and requested funding for a new piece of playground equipment.

Car wash - Dawn LaFlamme to chair. Need to use environmentally safe soap. Set up grade time frame, stations. Mr. Mike can provide buckets. Ask for parent donations for sponges, etc.

Slime Fundraiser - Chairpersons: Janet Kuzma & Meg Pinto. Will make a flyer.

Discussed Mrs. Goodrich purchasing the new playground dome. Lauren Sagliano motioned to spend up to $5,500. Dawn Laflamme seconded. A vote was held and approved.

• Safety Night Parents Only April 5th 6:30pm-7:30pm in the gym. Annually practice code black with Officer Newman.
• Conferences with parent surveys next week.
• Order Scholastic News
• Earth Day April 22nd. Dawn LaFlamme volunteered to pick up gloves and garbage bags from Public Works.
• Junior Acheivement Day April 12th. $130 in the budget for Junior Achievement Volunteer breakfast. Need to set up with Kate Murphy from food services.
• Playground - Naugatuck High School art teacher and students to paint Four Square, etc on the blacktop. Raised $120 with Western Wishes to purchase playground toys.
