Meeting Minutes
April 5, 2017

 

2016-2017 Officers: Janet Kuzma, President; Andrea Biondo, Vice President;

Attendance: Rachel Hayes, Amy Dorsey, Allison McGrath, Amanda Coles, Jen Hawks

Meeting called to order 7:02 pm

President's welcome

Pledge of Allegiance

Secretary's Report - Allison McGrath motioned to accept March minutes, Amy Dorsey seconded. Minutes were accepted.

Treasurer's Report - The March 2017 Treasury Report was submitted. Account activity discussed.

Old Business -
Spirit Sticks - Chairpersons: Amanda Jagello & Andrea Biondo. Peeps are doing well. Discussed possibly selling 3 times per year.

4th Grade Appreciation - Chairperson: Dorothy Paiva. Dorothy met with Life Touch to do yearbook. Janet will be taking class photos. $9 per book. Sent home order form. PTO will cover yearbooks if students cannot afford it.

Field Trips - Still waiting for Kindergarten information.

Teacher Appreciation - Chairpersons: Allison McGrath & Janet Kuzma. May 5th.

Donuts with Dad & Muffins with Mom - Chairpersons: Gretchen Scully & Jen Hawks. Muffins with Mom May 12th same day as plant sale. Will send out flyer after Spring Break to have an idea of the amount of food needed.

Father Daughter Dance - Chairpersons: Janet Kuzma & Danielle Scanlon. April 21st 6:30pm-8:00pm. Volunteers are needed.

PSC - Next meeting April 24th 6:30pm. Mike and Ginny Doxsey receiving Foley Award at ceremony taking place May 9th. $35 per ticket. Amy Dorsey volunteered to represent Western at the 2018 Community Showcase. Western received the assembly grant. PSC is hoping schools can help make the Back to School Block Party bigger and better this year. Amanda Coles volunteered to help. Discussing 501C3 non-profit organization in order to have a single umbrella insurance. Discussed Camp Invention, a robotics day camp at high school.


Mother Son Scavenger Hunt - Chairpersons: Amanda Coles & Meg Pinto. April 28th with Rain Date May 19th. Planning in progress. Sent out flyer beginning of April.

Scholastic Book Fair - Chairperson: Brooke Flemming. April 26th & 27th with a possible make up day April 28th. Buy One Get One sale which means we do not receive Scholastic Dollars. Will have free books available for children without money.

Ladies Night Out Paint Party - At Brushstroke. 35 person maximum. Possibly a Friday in May.

Yankee Candle - Chairperson: Amy Dorsey. Delivery Monday, May 8th. $8484 with $3300 profit.

Restaurant Night - Possibly end of year in June.

Next Year Fundraising - Surveys went home to families. Spirit Sticks, Smencils, and Original Artwork were among the favorites. Fall - Tupperware/Mixed Bags, Thanksgiving - Pies, Spring - Butterbraids (Kansas Maid). Greeting cards, $30 for 30 cards 43% of sales for PTO. Need chairperson for Fall fundraiser. Have artwork for holidays. Need chairperson for Box Tops.

New Business -

Plant Sale - Chairperson: Amanda Jagello. May 12th. Will need volunteers.

Field Day - May 26th. Will order t-shirts from Rosenblatt's and fruit from Kate Murphy.

Principal's Report - Presented by Rachel Hayes
Smarter Balance testing for grades 3 & 4 (ELA & RDG)

4th grade field trip.

April 18th Spirit Day & Junior Achievement Day - Breakfast snacks needed for volunteers.

April 20th Board of Education meeting at 7:00pm. Asking families to please join us as Western gets recognized as a School of Distinction.

April 21st Earth Day clean up - Will need materials.

April 21st Father Daughter Dance

April 26th NHS visits grades K-2 & Secretary's Day

April 26th and 27th Book Fair - Make up day April 28th

April 28th Mother Son Treasure Hunt
