Meeting Minutes

March 8, 2017

2016-2017 Officers:  Janet Kuzma, President; Andrea Biondo, Vice President;

Meeting called to order 7:01 pm

President's welcome

Pledge of Allegiance

Secretary's Report - Allison McGrath motioned to accept February minutes, Dorothy Paiva

seconded. Minutes were accepted.

Treasurer's Report - The February 2017 Treasury Report was submitted.  Account activity

discussed. We are still waiting for the Kindergarten field trip. PSC discussing having a

single insurance for all Naugatuck PTO's.

Old Business -

1. Spirit Sticks - Chairpersons: Amanda Jagello & Andrea Biondo. Ordered Muffins with

Moms, Donuts with Dads, and Pirate for the scavenger hunt. Not selling a March stick.

Spirit Monkey owners posted that they should only be used for student incentives not

fundraisers. Sales are down from last year but still a profit. Will order next year's at the

end of this school year.

2. 4 th Grade Appreciation - Chairperson: Dorothy Paiva. Mrs. Paiva is working on the

yearbook and can coordinate the 4 th grade fun activities if they occur on the same day.

Mrs. Goodrich suggested adding structured activities to the fun day. Usually takes place

in the last couple weeks of school.

3. Field Trips - Still waiting for Kindergarten field trip plans.

4. PSC - Next meeting is March 27 th at 6:30pm at Board of Ed. Foley Award nominees will

be voted on for ceremony taking place May 9 th . Community Showcase was February

11 th . We have not heard which school will receive the assembly grant. PSC is hoping

schools can help make the Back to School Block Party bigger and better this year. PSC

would like fundraiser calendars from all school by April meeting.

5. Cupcake Wars - Chairperson: Janet Kuzma. Took place February 27 th . Was such a fun

event and a big success. Raised $360.

6. Teacher Appreciation - Chairpersons: Allison McGrath & Janet Kuzma. May 5 th .

Looking for help.

7. Donuts with Dad & Muffins with Mom - Chairpersons: Gretchen Scully & Jen Hawks.

Possible dates: Muffins with Mom May 12 th same day as plant sale & Donuts with Dads

May 26 th same day as Field Day. Volunteers needed.

8. Father Daughter Dance - Chairpersons: Janet Kuzma & Danielle Scanlon. April 21 st

6:30pm-8:00pm. Volunteers are needed. Possible Candyland theme and sell candy

corsages.

9. Mother Son Scavenger Hunt - Chairpersons: Amanda Coles & Meg Pinto. April 28 th

with Rain Date May 19 th . Planning in progress. Send out flyer beginning of April.

10. Scholastic Book Fair - Chairperson: Brooke Flemming. April 26 th & 27 th with a possible

make up day April 28 th . Buy One Get One sale which means we do not receive

Scholastic Dollars. Looked into possibly having Barnes & Noble book fair in Spring 2018

since we do not receive Scholastic dollars for the BOGO sale. Will need gently used

book donations.

11. Ladies Night Out Paint Party - At Brushstroke. Would a weekend or weekday be better?

35 person maximum.

12. Yankee Candle - Chairperson: Amy Dorsey. Flyers ready to go home 3/14 but cannot

start selling until 3/16. Mrs. Goodrich will put flyers in mailboxes 3/16. Mrs. Dorsey will

hang posters and donate the ice cream party to the highest selling class.

13. Field Day T-Shirts - Mrs. Kuzma suggested ordering a different item other than t-shirts or

water bottles for the students.

New Business -

At the February meeting, Mr. Del Signore suggested making stenciled signs out of pallet

wood to sell. Possible fundraiser next year.

Restaurant Night - Julia Casso is willing to set up another night at American Pie & Pub.

Suggested to have activites/games on the stage. There may not be enough attendees

for gift baskets.

Duck Race Tickets - Duck Day June 4 th . We can sell tickets and keep ½ the dollar

amount raised. Unsold tickets must be returned by May 23 rd .

Future Fundraising Ideas - Mrs. Kuzma and Mrs. McGrath created a fundraising survey

to send home for parents to complete in order to determine what fundraisers parents are

interested in supporting.

Principal's Report -

New art teacher, Melina Corra, starts 3/9

Western 4 th grader won the Future Chef contest. Congratulations!

Will receive new buddy bench.

Dr. Seuss Week - Activities and buddy reading between different grades.

Kindergarten registration in progress this week.

March 18 th Harlem Wizards Charity Game

Parent Conferences and 1:00pm dismissal March 22, 23, 24

Parent surveys available at conferences - special gift for students

Final Career Share March 24 th - need volunteer to check in presenters. Culminating activity

will be in May.

March 28 th - Dairy Day and Taste it Tuesday. Wear black & white.

March 29 th - Spirit Day

Smarter Balance testing for grades 3 & 4 (ELA & Math) - April 3 rd - April 28 th

In the Works/Ideas Moving Forward-

Additional building substitute

Gymnasium was painted

New intercom system scheduled

Paving on track for this year

Earth Day Clean Up April 21 st - need gloves and bags

Bought non-fiction books with Scholastic Dollars
