Meeting Minutes

October 12, 2016

2016-2017 Officers:  Janet Kuzma, President; Andrea Biondo, Vice President; Amanda

Attendance: Principal Brenda Goodrich, Christine Peck, Allison McGrath, Gretchen Scully,

Rosa Agosto, Kelly Walsh, Lauren Warren, Amber Segetti, Dorothy Paina, Jodi Luchina,

Jennifer Hawks, Julia Casso

Meeting called to order 7:00 pm

President's welcome and officer introductions.

Pledge of Allegiance

Secretary's Report - Allison McGrath motioned to accept September minutes, Amanda

Jagello seconded. Minutes were accepted.

Treasurer's Report - The September 2016 treasurer's report was submitted.  Account

activity discussed.  

Old Business -

1. Cherrydale Fundraiser - Chairpersons: Catherine Deitelbaum & Polly Grant.

Orders are in. Shipping is on hold due to hold up of funds with central treasury. Orders

were down from last year. Cherrydale said profits may be down when not offering

incentive prizes. The prize puppies were discussed which were given out last year.

They were successful. Will revisit if the fundraiser should be held next year.

2. Spirit Sticks - Chairpersons: Amanda Jagello & Andrea Biondo. Going well. Sold out of

a few October sticks. Vote to order more for December, January and February $100.

Passed.

3. Lyman Orchard Pies - Chairpersons: Amanda Jagello & Andrea Biondo. Order forms

due October 17 th . Delivery and pick up November 21 st . Need volunteers to sign up.

Need blankets and sleeping bags to keep pies frozen. Mrs. Goodrich will send a School

Messenger reminder for pick up day. Hoping the sale goes better than last year.

4. Scholastic Book Fair - Chairperson: Brooke Flemming. Scheduled for October 19-21.

Volunteers are all set for the 3 days and Jodi Luchina volunteering for October 20 th

evening during parent teacher conferences. Need volunteers to help set up Tuesday

October 18 th 9:00am. Will have a table of gently used books for students to choose from

if they did not bring money.

5. Custodian Appreciation - Carla Illas purchased gift cards that were given to custodians.

6. Ladies Night Out - Brushstroke painting party. Cost per person $35-$45. Brushstroke

keeps $25 per person. Tentative date in November. Agreed to wait until after the

holidays. Will revisit at a later date.

7. Veteran's Day - Celebration on November 7 th . Veterans are encouraged to attend. Can

purchase flags from Amazon for $115. Janet Kuzma will follow up with Christine Okoski

regarding donations to cover flag cost and guest speakers.

8. Turkey Trot - Chairperson needed. Mrs. Chaine is very interested in helping out. Jodi

Luchina brought example form. Mrs. Warren suggested 3 rd and 4 th graders jog around

the school and the younger students can walk the blacktop. Mrs. Goodrich can get

coverage for Mrs. Warren to make the course. The teachers will be outside with the

students so do not need many volunteers. The artwork fundraiser was scheduled to

overlap but Polly Grant, Chairperson, may put off the fundraiser this year.

9. Cookies with Santa - Chairpersons: Julia Casso & Deb Masliuk. Combined with

gingerbread house making night December 2 nd . Janet Kuzma will take photos. Need a

Santa and a Santa suit. Will need volunteers for gluing graham crackers to milk cartons

a couple of evenings before. Suggestion of high school students that need volunteer

hours. Need to create a flyer. Ask for candy, graham cracker, and paper plate

donations. Will not have cookies. Will take place in the cafeteria and the gym.

10. Box Tops - Coordinator: Jennifer Jackson. We have parent volunteers in each

classroom for collection. Pizza party contest will end October 17 th .

11. 4 th Grade Appreciation - Chairperson needed. Suggestions are pizza party, yearbooks,

Hillside t-shirts, autograph books. If yearbook is decided, school pictures from Rockwell

Studios can be used and parents can donate other pictures of their children they want

included.

 

New Business -

1. PSC Meeting - September 26 th . Discussed a few activities planned for the year.

District wide Trunk or Treat Friday, October 28 th downtown. Need volunteers to help set

up 5:00-5:30pm and hoping for 75 decorated cars where candy will be handed out. PSC

is hoping to get candy donations. If this event is not scheduled next year, Mrs. Goodrich

would like to have a Western Trunk or Treat.

501 - May offer stipend to a parent to write checks.

Community Showcase - To be held at Naugatuck High School gym.

Foley Award

Back to School Block Party - Would like to make this event bigger.

Looking for a liaison from each school to attend PSC meeting other than board

members.

Calendar of all school fundraisers to avoid overlapping.

Next PSC meeting is October 24 th at 6:30pm at Board of Ed building. All are welcome.

2. Restaurant Night - Julia Casso set up a fundraiser at American Pie & Pub in Seymour

October 30 th from 1pm-5pm. Kids are welcome to dress up and receive a special treat

for coming. 20% of food and drinks (alcoholic included) will be given to PTO. Mrs.

Goodrich will provide homework pass for raffle. Other raffle ideas were discussed. Flyer

to go home next week.

3. Wreath Fundraiser - Two options to provide wreaths for fundraiser. CT based cost

$7.95 each with bow, $7.25 each without bow. Can sell between $12 and $15 each.

New Hampshire based provider too expensive.

Principal's Report -

School Store - Hired 4 th graders to run the school store. Will be open soon.

Positive Behavior Supports - September "bee" winners were picked. Three per class. Every

three months, big prizes are given to the highest earners.

School and bus expectations.

Career Fair - First career fair, October 14 th at 9:30am in classrooms.

Go Orange-No Child Go Hungry - Concludes October 14 th , food donation contest by grade

for extra recess. Picture was in the newspaper.

Dress as your favorite book character October 18 th .

Parent conferences and book fair October 19 th -21 st 1:00pm dismissal.

Skateboard Science Assembly October 21 st .

Go Blue Against Bullying-Acts of Kindness.

Pumpkin Decorating Competition-Team Building - Students vote for their favorite pumpkin

and enter to win it with a raffle ticket.

Western Spirit Day - October 26 th wear Western clothes. Orders will be in by then.

Make up Picture Day - October 24 th .

Extended Day Offering - Monday, Wednesday and Friday tutoring for 1 st grade students

struggling with Math and Reading.

Flag Team - Team of 4 th graders raise and lower the flag every day.
