Meeting Minutes

September 7, 2016

 

 

 

2016-2017 Officers:  Janet Kuzma, President; Andrea Biondo, Vice President; Amanda Jagello, Treasurer; Meg Pinto, Secretary

 

Attendance: Principal Brenda Goodrich, Amanda Coles, Amy Dorsey, Jodi Luchina, Kelly Walsh, Jennifer Hawks, Gretchen Scully, Christine Peck, Julia Casso, Danielle Scanlon, Christine Okoski, Carla Illas

 

Meeting called to order 7:00 pm

 

 

Secretary's report   - No minutes to approve. 

 

Treasurer's report - The July and August 2016 treasurer's report and the 2016-2017 PTO Budget were submitted.  Account activity discussed.  A motion to accept the budget was approved. 

 

 

Old Business -

1.    Cherrydale Fundraiser - Chairpersons:  Catherine Deitelbaum & Polly Grant.  Fundraising packets went out the first week of school and are due back September 12th.

2.    Spirit Sticks - Chairpersons:  Amanda Jagello & Andrea Biondo.  First order form went out last week.  All kindergarteners were given a ring with a free spirit stick and a free ring with first order for other grades.  Mr. Coviello only room not submitted.  Monthly sales will take place for September, October and November.  Results will determine if monthly sales should continue for the remainder of the year.  Will sell at Open House September 13th.  Students who say the Pledge of Allegiance daily receive free stick.  Mrs. Goodrich said that is going well.  Janet Kuzma posted order form on Facebook page.

3.    Lyman Orchard Pies - Chairpersons:  Amanda Jagello & Andrea Biondo.  Should receive info from Lyman Orchard next Monday or following week.  Scheduled delivery and pick up date is Monday, November 21st.  Cheerleading in the gym has been canceled for that day.  Need 6 volunteers to help unload and sort orders in the morning as well as volunteers in the afternoon for order pick up.  Need blankets to keep the pies cold.

4.    Book Fair - Chairperson:  Brooke Flemming.  Scheduled for October 19-21.  Volunteers needed for all 3 days with possibly one evening during parent conferences.  Discussed having a table of donated books for students who don't have money to purchase books.  It would have to be included on the flyer.

 

 

New Business -

 

1.    Scholastic News - Deb Masliuk orders. 

2.    Custodian Appreciation - October 3rd - Looking for a volunteer to purchase gifts and cards for the 2 custodians.  $50 per custodian.

3.    Trunk or Treat - PSC is planning a district wide trunk or treat.  Should there be a Western Car?

4.    Veterans Day - Christine Okoski will check with the VFW for flag donations for each student and speakers for Veterans Day.  Need 270 flags approximately.  Ordered flags last year from Oriental Trading.

5.    Ladies Night Out - Paint party fundraiser at Brush Stroke.  Can host up to 30 people.  PTO sets price per person and Brush Stroke keeps $25 per person.  Possible date of November 11th.  Discussed if PTO should provide refreshments.

6.    Artwork Fundraiser - Chairperson:  Polly Grant.  Original Works.  Last year worked well when students made the artwork in classroom with teachers.  Will be available to order for holiday gifts.

7.    Turkey Trot - Chairperson and volunteers needed.  Fundraising event for students to take place during school Wednesday before Thanksgiving. 

8.    Cookies with Santa - Chairperson and volunteers needed. Possibly combine with Gingerbread making night December 2nd.  Janet Kuzma will take family photos.  Need to speak with Mrs. Masulik and Mrs. Seifer.

9.    Cupcake Wars - Chairperson: Janet Kuzma.  Fundraising event for students.  Tentative date Monday, February 13th.  Volunteers needed. 

10.  Donuts with Dads - Chairperson needed.  Take place in the morning before school begins in cafeteria.  Need a flyer and order food through food service.

11.  Muffins with Moms - Chairperson needed. Take place in the morning before school begins in cafeteria.  Need a flyer and order food through food service.

12.  Father Daughter Spring Fling - Chairperson:  Janet Kuzma.  Tentative date April 21st.

13.  Mother Son Event - Chairperson needed.  Need ideas.  Possible ideas - dodgeball or scavenger hunt?

14.  Yankee Candle Fundraiser - Chairperson:  Amy Dorsey.  Amy needs volunteers to help with distribution in the afternoon.

15.  Plant Sale - Chairperson:  Amanda Jagello - Friday, May 12th before Mother's Day.  Get plants through Beacon Valley Nursery.  Need volunteers.

16.  Movie Night - Possible April or May.  Last day of school movie night was successful last year.  If that is decided upon, Mrs. Goodrich would like to invite incoming Kindergarteners.  School has a new, bigger screen so viewing will be easier if the movie is shown inside.

17.  Box Tops - Coordinator needed to collect, check dates, and turn in box tops.  Try to find a parent in each class to help.  Also check into Big Y and Stop & Shop Rewards programs.

18.  Volunteer Coordinator needed.  Need someone responsible for contacting volunteers for events, school needs, etc.

19.  Appreciation/Sympathy Coordinator needed.  Need someone responsible for sending out appreciation/sympathy cards and gifts if necessary.

20.  PSC - Parent Student Council.  First meeting September 26th at 6:30pm at Board of Education.

21.  4th Grade Appreciation - Chairperson needed.  Discussed suggestions of things to do for the 4th grade.  Would like to purchase yearbooks for all 4th graders or pay a portion of it.

22.  Field Trips - 1st grade wants to see a play.  $9.25 per seat, 75 tickets and 1 bus.  Partial day trip.  Will create entire day around the play and theater.  Treasurer stated the budget covers field trips $21 per 4th grade student and $17 per K-3 grade student.

23.  Restaurant Nights - Not a good return on Friendly's fundraisers in the past.  Allison McGrath looked into other restaurants.  American Pie & Pub pizza restaurant in Seymour is a possibility.  PTO would receive 25% of sales.  Restaurant prefers fundraisers on Sundays.  Possible raffles.  McDonalds was also discussed as a possibility.

 

24.  Future Meetings - Discussed possible meeting schedule changes to encourage teachers' attendance.  Wednesdays are difficult for them due to faculty meetings.
